Bodega Bay is a working harbor town on the Sonoma Coast, 65 miles and about two hours north of San Francisco. Come to walk the 1.9-mile loop at Bodega Head, spend a day on the sand at Doran Beach, watch gray whales between December and May, and stand where Hitchcock filmed The Birds. Walk the 1.9-mile Bodega Head Nature Trail for the harbor mouth, the open Pacific, and the gray whale run. Southbound whales pass from November into mid-February. The northbound return, with mothers and calves, runs mid-February through May. The Sonoma Coast State Park beaches nearby are for walking, not swimming.
