Gualala · Anchor Bay
Anchor Cove
3 bedrooms · 3 bath · sleeps 8
The stay
Floor-to-ceiling glass, a private cove, and the Pacific straight ahead. The house is concrete, steel, and wood on 5.25 acres of bluff at Anchor Bay, with 1,800 feet of oceanfront below it and rock islands offshore where the seals bark and, in winter, whales pass close enough to watch from the hot tub. Three suites sleep 8 — two kings and a bunk room. Evenings go to the deck: the 6-person hot tub, the fire pit, the bench at the edge of the bluff, and whatever the sunset decides to do.
The space
The first thing you notice is the water. The windows run the full ocean side of the main level, so the Pacific is in the room before you have set your bags down: the cove below, the rock islands offshore, and in winter the whales. The house itself is concrete, steel, and wood, and from inside you mostly forget it is there. You are on 5.25 private acres of bluff above Anchor Bay, with 1,800 feet of oceanfront below you, in 4,220 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths, one for each. Walk out to the bench at the edge for sunset. When the light goes, move down to the lower fire pit, or stay on the deck, which runs the full ocean side of the house: a 6-person hot tub, loungers along the rail, a fire pit, and an outdoor kitchen with a built-in stainless grill, so dinner happens outside with the rocks and the water in front of you. Back inside, the Sapele wood ceilings and the radiant floors take the chill off the glass. Settle into the wide sectional with the two-sided gas fireplace lit; it opens through to the primary bedroom on the other side. The Sonos speakers are built in, and the wine fridge and the bar are a few steps away with proper glassware. The kitchen is built to cook for eight: double wall ovens, a gas cooktop, a Nespresso machine, a dishwasher, concrete counters, and a long island with bar stools where everyone gathers while you cook. The marble table seats six beside the deck sliders, and a TV above the cooktop keeps the game on. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS The house sleeps 8 across three bedrooms, each with a TV and a desk set up for real work. -- Primary suite (main level): a king bed facing the shared fireplace, your own door to the deck, a walk-in closet, and a bath with a double vanity, two toilets, a multi-jet shower, and a door straight outside. -- Bunk room (main level, off the kitchen): two walnut bunks, each with a queen below and a twin above, a window on the cove, and its own full bath with a shower. -- Lower suite (one flight down): a king bed, a private patio, a mini fridge in the hall, and an en suite bath with an oversized sink and shower. The laundry is on the same level. Need to work? Three workstations with sit-to-stand desks, ergonomic chairs, large monitors, and cameras and microphones for calls, plus fast fiber internet. An outdoor desk faces the water for the days the weather allows. In the garage you will find a Peloton bike, a treadmill, and a dumbbell rack. A crib, a Pack 'n Play, and a high chair are in the house. At the end of the day, the hot tub is a few steps from the living room door, and the only light out there is the fire. Then the stars.

Neighborhood
You are in Anchor Bay, a small settlement on Highway 1 just north of Gualala on the Mendocino coast, and most of what you need is within a few minutes of the driveway. The Anchor Bay Store, about half a mile away, covers groceries and a deli sandwich. Cooks Beach, a sandy cove between rock walls, is about 1 mile north, a 5-minute drive; from your own deck you will hear the seals on Fish Rock before you see them. Gualala is about 4 miles south when you want Surf Market, a restaurant dinner, the galleries, or a show at the Gualala Arts Center. Gualala Point Regional Park, with its bluff trail and the river mouth, is about 5 miles, and Sea Ranch Golf Links about 6. Head north on Highway 1 and you reach Bowling Ball Beach and Schooner Gulch in about 8 miles, the B. Bryan Preserve in Point Arena (guided tours of zebras and antelope) in about 15 minutes, and the Point Arena Lighthouse in about 20 miles.

Guest access
The whole house is yours: all three suites, the deck and the grounds, and the garage gym. Park in the driveway, which holds up to five cars. Casago sends you the door code and arrival details before check-in. You will find the living areas, the primary suite, and the bunk room on the main level; the lower suite is one flight of stairs down.
Things to know
The house sits above steep cliffs. Keep children close outdoors, near the edge and on the way down to the lower fire pit, and stay off the roof. For security, one outdoor camera faces the driveway and one on the roof faces the beach. Both face the exterior only. One dog is welcome. Please keep your dog leashed on the bluff and clean up after them. You will sleep on two levels: the primary suite and the bunk room are on the main floor, and the lower suite is one flight down. Fog comes and goes on this coast, often lifting by midday, and evenings cool off fast even in summer. The hot tub and the fireplace are for that. Gray whales pass December through April. Bring binoculars and watch for spouts from the deck. Cell service is patchy along the coast; Verizon and AT&T work best here. You will have fast fiber internet in the house. Traveling with little ones? A crib, a Pack 'n Play, and a high chair are in the house. The Peloton bike runs on the free tier; log in to your own membership if you want the live classes. A family of foxes lives along the cliffs. They are nocturnal and keep to themselves; watch your step on the paths in the morning. Abalone season is closed on this coast, and diving for them carries a heavy fine. The night sky is dark here. On a clear night, walk out to the bench and look up.
