The stay
Relax in a spacious, warm and inviting respite that beckons you to relax and soak in the panoramic views and vibes of The Sea Ranch’s natural untouched splendor from both inside and out.
The space
Upon arriving at the front door, you’ll be greeted with vaulted exposed-beam ceilings and large picture windows framing the Pacific Ocean just beyond the sweeping golden West Meadow, a perfect lens to watch the sun arc across the meadow each afternoon. Thoughtfully equipped with a wood-burning fireplace and comfortable furniture to sink into, the living area provides plenty of space for everyone to spread out with a favorite book or gather together for games, puzzles or a favorite Netflix show. Beyond the grand living area, step into the open kitchen equipped with a gas range, full oven, microwave and Sub-Zero refrigerator making everything from one-pan dinners to a full three-course meal an easy reality. A propane BBQ just outside the kitchen provides another food prep option. Pull up a stool to the sleek granite-topped island or move the party to the generous dining area. Open both the deck and kitchen sliders for refreshing ocean cross-breezes while you dine. Or dine out on the expansive wood deck listening to the surf while the sun slowly dips into the ocean and the starlit sky emerges. Enjoy three comfortable ensuite bedrooms, each with a California King bed plus their own dedicated bathroom. The downstairs primary suite offers corner-window views over the meadow and ocean, and a deep-soaking tub with a glass walk-in shower. Outside the primary suite, find the laundry room and half-bath. From the entry, climb the open stairwell to two more ensuite bedrooms, one that opens onto a private deck. OUTDOOR LIVING Just outside the front door and kitchen slider is an enclosed courtyard - a serene oasis of fragrant citrus, red maples, vibrant flowers and sweet succulents, among which the spacious and pristine hot tub sits and invites you to relax and unwind. Neighborhood
Nowell House sits on Leeward Road on the ocean side of The Sea Ranch, Sonoma County's iconic 1960s coastal community where homes are designed to "live lightly on the land." The house is on a meadow lot — the bluff trail and Walk-On Beach are about a ten-minute walk through the cedar gate at the side of the property. Whale season runs from late December through April; wildflowers carpet the bluffs from April into June. Down the road, The Sea Ranch Lodge has a restaurant, bar, market, and a sweep of Pacific lawn; Two Fish Baking and Trink's Café handle morning pastries and ocean-view coffee. Seven minutes north in Gualala you'll find the Surf Market for full grocery runs, Bones Roadhouse, and St. Orres for a special-occasion dinner. South to Stewart's Point Store for sandwiches; further south, Salt Point State Park has tide pools, kelp forests, and wind-sculpted sandstone formations called the Tafoni. Highway 1 itself is one of the most scenic drives in California — wineries are inland through the Skaggs Springs corridor.
Guest access
You'll have the entire home and grounds to yourself — three bedrooms (all ensuite), the great room, kitchen, hot tub, decks, garage, and the garden paths. Self check-in with a smart-lock code; we're a short text or call away during your stay if anything comes up.
Things to know
The Nowell House is not only solar-powered but also has a Tesla-battery powerwall which provides energy to the entire home when occasional electrical outages occur in the area (usually due to weather). Very few homes in The Sea Ranch community provide such extensive electrical back-up coverage. The bluff trail is an easy 5-minute walk from the house and Walk-On Beach (closest beach) is less than a 10-minute walk via the bluff trail. Parking is also available nearby at Walk-On Beach (be sure to bring your parking pass). Del Mar Recreation Center (pool & sauna) is a few quick blocks from the house. This home is located on the northern end of The Sea Ranch, thereby making it a short 6-min drive to the town of Gualala’s shops, restaurants and other community outposts. • Cell service in The Sea Ranch can be spotty (AT&T and Verizon both have soft pockets). Wi-Fi is reliable for streaming, video calls and remote work. • Sea Ranch is a designated dark-sky community — exterior lighting is intentionally minimal so the night sky stays dark and stars shine ever so brightly. Bring a headlamp or flashlight if you plan to walk after dark. • Wildlife is part of the experience: gray whales offshore in winter, deer, rabbits and quail in the meadow, harbor seals on the rocks below the bluff and birds of every kind. • Sea Ranch Association rules apply across the community: no drones, no fireworks, quiet hours after 10pm. Parking passes are required for all vehicles in Sea Ranch. • There are no pets allowed in this home. Additional vehicles are limited — let us know in advance.
